Car Shipping to and from California
We are headquartered in Chatsworth, Los Angeles County, so California is our home market and our densest carrier network.
California generates more vehicle transport volume than any other state: relocations in and out of the Bay Area and Southern California, dealer inventory moving between Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Diego, and a constant flow of collector cars to and from auctions and shows.
Because we are physically based in the Los Angeles basin, we know which carriers actually run the I-5, I-10, I-15 and I-80 corridors on schedule, and which pickups need a meeting point instead of a residential street.
Popular lanes from California
| Destination | Approx. distance | Typical transit |
|---|---|---|
| California → Texas | ~1,400 mi | 3-5 days |
| California → Florida | ~2,700 mi | 7-10 days |
| California → New York | ~2,800 mi | 7-10 days |
| California → Arizona | ~370 mi | 1-2 days |
| California → Washington | ~1,100 mi | 3-4 days |
Distances and transit windows are planning estimates based on typical carrier progress of roughly 400-500 miles per day. Your quote confirms the actual window for your lane.
Shipping a car in California: what to expect
Los Angeles and the Inland Empire have the deepest carrier supply in the country, so pickups there are usually the fastest to schedule. Northern California and the Central Valley are well covered along I-5 and Highway 99; coastal and mountain addresses may need a nearby meeting point because full-size haulers cannot navigate narrow streets.
Hillside neighborhoods, gated communities and downtown high-rises frequently require the driver to meet you at a wide street or a shopping center parking lot. We arrange that in advance rather than surprising you on the day.

Common questions
How much does car transportation cost?
Cost depends on distance, vehicle size and weight, whether the car runs, open versus enclosed transport, the season, and how busy the route is. A short regional move on an open trailer is the cheapest scenario; a coast-to-coast enclosed move of an inoperable vehicle is the most expensive. Send us both ZIP codes and the vehicle details for an exact quote.
How long does it take to ship a car?
Carriers average roughly 400 to 500 miles per day once loaded. Regional moves usually take one to three days, cross-country moves seven to ten days. Pickup is typically scheduled within a few days of booking, faster on busy lanes.
Is my vehicle insured while it is being transported?
Yes. Every carrier we assign must have active cargo and liability insurance and valid FMCSA operating authority, and we verify both before your vehicle is booked. Personal items left inside the vehicle are not covered.
What is the difference between open and enclosed transport?
Open transport uses a multi-car hauler with no walls or roof. It is the cheapest and most widely available option and is how new cars are delivered to dealerships. Enclosed transport uses a fully covered trailer that protects the vehicle from weather and road debris; it costs more and is recommended for luxury, classic, exotic and low-clearance vehicles.
